Cervical Screening
A cervical screening (aka a cervical smear or smear test) involves taking a small sample of cells from your cervix (the opening of your womb from your vagina) to test the health of your cervix.
Testing the health of your cervix can help us prevent cervical cancer. That's why it's important for you to come in for your cervical screen when you're invited.

Who is this for?
All women and people with a cervix in certain age groups. If you’re aged 25 to 49 you’ll get an invite for a cervical screen every three years, and from the ages of 49 to 64 you’ll get an invite every five years. What to expect
Your cervical screen will be performed by a practice nurse (most of our nursing team is female but we do have some fully trained male nurses so please let us know if you would prefer a female nurse). The whole appointment should take around 10 minutes and our nurse will explain the whole process to you beforehand.
How can I book?
You can book your appointment by calling the practice. You don't need to wait for an invite before booking a cervical screen - give us a call and we can check your eligibility. If you’re over 64 years old and have never had a cervical screen, you can still book an appointment with us.

Yes, a cervical screen is a free health test covered by the NHS.
